Aryeline Farr in 1879

On this New Year’s Day there were no celebrations like in the big cities, instead Azuba Farr was giving birth to her daughter Aryeline “Lina” Farr, who was born on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1855. Her husband William had been through this before since Aryeline was their fourth child. She was the first of William’s family to be born in Illinois and the first in Fulton County, the other children had been born in Ohio. Growing up Aryeline went by the name Lina and when she was older she also used Angeline. When she was 21 Lina Farr married Stephen A. Douglas Lovell on April 6, 1876 at her parent’s home in Pleasant Township (later called Ipava), Illinois. Lina’s first cousin Carrie Farr was an official witness to the wedding and probably her bride’s maid. Her husband Stephen A. Douglas Lovell was born on March 26, 1855 to James and Mary Ann (Littleton) Lovell in Illinois. Stephen was a farmer. He died on October 11, 1926 he was 71 years old. When Stephen died he and Lina had been married 50 years. S.A.D. and Lina lived in Ipava, one block south and then west from the Methodist Church.

Lina was a small woman in stature and was always on the move according to those who knew her. She had lots of energy, always working, always doing something not one to just sit around. About half a year after Stephen died Lina moved to Macomb, Illinois to live with one of her children on May 1, 1927. Less than a year later Angeline, as her death certificate and obituary states, died on March 12, 1928 at the age of 73. The cause of her death was apoplexy which is a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke. She was buried along side of her husband in the Ipava Cemetery.
