Thanks for your interest in the history of the Farr Family. This is an ongoing website that features the descendants of Nathan and Susan Farr who were married in 1806 in Pennsylvania. Four of their children Elizabeth, Cooper, Samuel and William Farr ended up settling in Fulton County, Illinois beginning in the 1830’s. Today their descendants live in Fulton County and central Illinois and many other states as well. My name is John Farr and I have researched all the information on this website. Hi John, I love your work on this website. You could have easily been writing about my husband’s family except you have much more documentation than we have. My husband’s great grandfather, William H Huffman, was born on March 17, 1875 in Ipava, Fulton County, Illinois. His family was from Pennsylvania and first moved to Medina, Ohio. In 1848 William’s grandfather was married in Medina, Ohio. The entire family then moved to Fulton County, Illinois by the 1860 census where Adam Huffman (William’s grandfather) was listed as a farmer. We have been to the Vance cemetery in Industry where most of the souls buried there are related to our family one way or another. We have been to the Harris Cemetery, Table Grove Cemetery, and to the Minor-Bates cemetery all in the area to pay respects. The dates and locations in your family history truly mirror William’s and I feel we have gotten to know our family members much better because of your work. Thank you. Peg Huffman.

Hello John. Fine work on compiling this family history. I too have a relative from Illinois who served and died in the Civil War. He was Aaron Nokes of Fulton County who was a private in the 103rd Illinois Infantry. He died in Holly Springs, MS on Dec. 21, 1862, one day after the Holly Springs raid. I cannot locate his burial site and am wondering if you have any ideas about where I might look. He does not appear in the national cemetery listings. He also had a brother, Orin, who also was in the war. Can’t find anything on him, either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the tardy response. Most of my ancestors who died during the Civil War were brought back to Fulton County to be buried. You might try looking on Find-a-Grave and see if the Nokes were buried back home.
